About Wedding Photography
Keeping a record of the wedding day is an important part of any wedding. Whether you are selecting a professional photographer or videographer to record the whole day, or are looking for ways to save money but still get a good record of the occasion, our suggestions will help you get the photographic record you are looking for.
You should
- Meet with and view the work of a number of photographers before making your decision.
- View the photographs of one entire wedding, not just the best photographs of many different weddings
- Make a wish list of the photographs you would like.
- Consider the style of photography you would like. Most photographers offer a range of styles but some specialise, and their best work may be black and white, traditional or some other style. See list of styles.
When meeting a photographer think about:
- Do the couples in his/her photographs look relaxed and at ease?
- Do you relate well and feel comfortable with the photographer?
- Are the photographs look well composed?
- Do the couples look good in the location?
- Do the photographs capture different moods and feelings?
Other suggestions
- Providing disposable cameras on each table will allow your guests to have fun capturing moments thoughout the occasion.
- Take photos with a digital camera and put them online!
A necessary precaution
Ensure that your photographer has professional indemnity insurance. This covers any cost of having photos retaken should the photos be damaged or lost, or if some other unforseen mishap means the photos are not delivered to you by the photographer. It won't be the same as wedding day photos but it will be of some comfort.
Note
Most photographers retain copyright of the wedding photos so if you would like another arrangement clarify this in the initial meeting.
